April Ross
April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball athletes to win medals more than once at an Olympics. She is set to compete in Tokyo for her third Olympic medal with Alix Klineman, who is a first time Olympian. More than that though Ross is aiming to capture the first Olympic gold. At 39, this could be her final chance to win the Olympic gold. Nevertheless, she remains certain of taking top honors. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that If the team is performing very well, or even at all, it could be able to win gold. So I'm going to take the chance too. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa with her mother, father and sibling. Ross went on to play in a myriad of sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. In her time as a college athlete, she also played indoor track and volleyball. She was clearly the best player in indoor volleyball. Through her high school years, she was a middle blocker outside setter and hitter at the tennis court, according to her college bio. Gatorade Circle of Champions named her as the National Player 1999. Her volleyball skills also brought her an Orange County Athlete of the Year award in the year 2000. While Ross and Klineman are in the spotlight since the year 2017, Klineman had already been a major participant on the beaches long before their pairing. Actually, Ross has won several important tournaments throughout her career with two partners. One of them is a volleyball legend. Between 2007 and 2013, she was partnered with Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who won the world title alongside Kessy in 2009, was also significant on the international stage. They were awarded a silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor took home gold beating them to it. Ross Jennings was Walsh Jennings partner in fate after Maytreanor's retirement. In 2016, the duo took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a player for the Trojans at USC during her the college years following her graduation from high school. Ross's time in the Trojans was amazing. She was a All-American and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2000 as a young freshman. In 2000, her Trojans made it to the Final Four. She was devastated by a tragic incident in her sophomore year. However, she went on to be an All-American once more. Over her final 2 seasons with the Trojans program, she guided the team to win a national championship every time. She was a great player on the court, and was awarded the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the best female college volleyball player. Ross had been an international studies student at USC. Margie Ross did not get to see her daughter's climb to beach volleyball fame. Ross's mother died of breast cancer while she was a sophomore in USC. She has kept her parents close to her his heart. Margie is a constant source of inspiration to her on and off the beach.
