Ronny Chieng

and comedian. Chieng is currently a Senior Correspondent on The Daily Show,
Comedy Central. He is the creator and lead actor on the sitcom Ronny Chieng
International Student. The show premiered on ABC Australia as well as Comedy
Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was born into a Malaysian Chinese family. He was
born in Johor Bahru. From 1989 until 1994, Chieng lived in Manchester in New Hampshire.
Chieng was a performer at a comedy festival held in Melbourne, Australia in
2013, with Trevor Noah. Chieng was offered the Daily Show's correspondent role
two years after. Chieng was named one of the top 10 comics to watch in
Variety's July 2016 issue. In October, Chieng joined The Daily Show to discuss
the controversy surrounding a Jesse Watters Fox News segment that was widely
viewed as racist. Chieng was known for his expletive-laden remarks about the
segment of conservative network Fox News. He also visited New York City's
Chinatown. Watters had mocked the inhabitants of the area and conducted
respectful interviews in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. The viral video was
featured in Slate and the Washington Post. In his early years, Chieng was an Singapore
Sea Scout. Chieng hasn't managed to acquire citizenship or permanent residence
in Australia despite living in Australia for ten years. Chieng made an ad-lib
about being an apologist for cynophobia on the 2018 Daily Show. However Chieng
later said that he's "100 100% not afraid of dogs" in an interview.
